The Devil I Know
Pieces of passersby conversations are like puffs of cloud in midair I can snatch. Global woes are interspersed with happier talk where life is pleasant, for the most part, with the coming of spring. Dog walkers stroll the seaside while they can. No pets will be allowed on Crescent Beach Park pathways from May 15 to September 15.
Closer to home, I am hoping that the record breaking hot summer in British Columbia last year does not repeat itself. More information about the heat dome effect is HERE.

Local wildlife such as this ruler of the skies (above) are welcome year round.
Flowers are blooming. All seems right with the world when reliable perennials return.
Rain washed daffodils are cloaked in a buttery bright glow.
The statue I walk by regularly on my way to the beach is a handsome devil and completely harmless, unlike the real-life version currently doing tremendous harm to Ukraine and causing troubling ripple effects throughout much of our world.
There is no escaping Ukraine in the news but I did hear a brief item about the climate in eastern Antarctica which experienced weather 50 to 90 degrees above normal. This mammoth rise in temperate apparently shocked even the scientists.
Although it can seem like early days, the predicted hotter future is well underway.

Staying sane in an insane world :) Doing whatever we need to do to create stability and equanimity in our lives, whether meditating, doing yoga, taking walks in nature, or doing something creative like taking great photos like yourself! :)
ReplyDeleteI love to people watch and listen. I'm still reeling from that news about the climate and the dread of more unnecessary deaths in Ukraine. We need the sun and spring and birds and flowers now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of your area ~ refreshing despite the world situation ~ rather like the devil you know than the one in the news ~ Xo

So much going on in the world, climate, war, disease. Ukraine is always in my thoughts, and I wish for good news very much to their benefit. Wonderful images to bring some light into our day. Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, I love the editing.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the planet's climate is going out of control sometimes.
Maria - your artistic renderings of some of the photos is so lovely. I feel like I have been strolling through a terrific art museum! I could ignore for the moment the climate challenges we face, not to mention the plight of Ukraine. I hope you can find some joy in your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI like the first pic the best. Great Street Photography!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. My favorite is the last one. I still get a daily newspaper, but it gets harder and harder to read. So much gloom and doom, it's a tough way to start your day.
ReplyDeleteI am ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteThat devil statue is not scary at all, I kinda like it.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Hello, Maria
ReplyDeleteThe walkway looks like a great place for the dog walkers, the views are beautiful. The beaches here have the same rule about dogs on May 1st. I love the first blooms of Spring, the daffodils are a cheery sight. I like the devil statue, much better than the real life devil. Beautiful image of the heron. Lovely photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Hello, :=) We also have those rules about dogs on beaches, here in Portugal. It's a pleasant sight to see them enjoying their outings. Beautiful photos taken in your area and I like what you have done with the images, ..very artistic. Spring flowers are sprouting up in my garden, a welcome sight after dreary dull days. The rising temperatures are alarming, as is the war in Ukraine. My thoughts are constantly with the people of Ukraine, I hope this terrible war ends in it's favour.
ReplyDeleteDear Maria- Rethinking of reliance on Russian gas and oil could improve policies and accelerate clean energy systems, I hope. Harsh winter is really unbearable, but now we can’t miss this opportunity to take drastic bitter but effective medicine, which was ignored or prolonged. We might be losing comfortable lives, but Ukrainians their lives, though we must not forget it’s only Ukrainians who are suffering for various reasons worldwide though.

Greetings and Salutations! I liked the last image the BEST. Awesome blog.
ReplyDeleteThe painting (for so it looks) at the end of your post brings a smile and that is a good way to wrap up the post. There were plenty of smiles along with how well you expressed the (too many) real worries we all have these days. I was interested in your thoughts about the snatches of conversations of people who pass by.... on the contrary, in upsetting times like these when I am out walking I sometimes just want to shake people who stroll by talking inanely and constantly complaining about trivial matters -- somehow it is almost as upsetting as if they were talking about Putin and the Ukraine. Maybe I need a therapist. But I choose to think I just need quiet! .... In any case your nature pictures are beautiful and (you will be glad to know) calming! Thank you.
ReplyDeletePessimism is not to be confused with realism. The climate has passed its tipping point and one catastrophe is going to follow another. And we still lack the global will to accept the truth and begin to seriously attempt remediation.
