Path Of Delightful Distractions
Aww ... fluffy puppies wearing shoes are a delight ...
... as are hints of tranquil blue peeking out from gloomy clouds after a rainstorm.
Cozy houses delight, too.
Autumn leaves with their bounty of bright colours never fail to amaze ...
... even when they're gone we know they'll come back. I never imagined, however, that an unfit climate-change denier and insult to decency would come back to lead the most powerful nation on Earth. This is a waking nightmare for those who recognize the dangers ahead. The America I felt so hopeful about has slipped away and will likely not materialize in my lifetime. So, although I do, it's not easy to find the path to "delight" at this moment, the word prompt from Poets and Storytellers United.
We Canadians have our own faux-populist who has no plans for the environment but is high in the polls due to constant disinformation and catchy slogans like "axe the tax", a carbon tax rebated to low and mid-income folks. Countering such tactics with pictures and words gives me some measure of pleasure but, I suppose, it is just a diversion.
Frankly, the Turkish proverb, old as time, explains delightfully well what we're going through still in modern times. It goes something like this: "The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe, for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because its handle was made of wood, it was one of them."

Season Of Nightly Enchantments & Cats
"Get bewitched by the journey." - Penelope Puddle
Here amid the stars, we are minuscule voyagers in a vast cosmic sea on a puzzling planet we barely understand. It is a beautiful, magical and terrifying place all at once. Of course, humankind can be scary, too, and what better time to show that side than Halloween at October's end when children bang on doors "demanding" treats (in Canada they usually ask politely), dressed as goons and witches while stray cats roam and pumpkins, like constellations, abound under light of the haunting moon, which happens to be the apt word-prompt this week from Poets and Storytellers United.

Forest Walk After The Rain
If I were a season, it would be autumn when life lets go to whatever comes next in grand flashes of freedom. The animated foliage unleashed in melancholy weather suits my mood. In dying leaves and spectacular sunsets, I see transformations and openings for future renewal. The season is cooler but it makes me feel warmer and cozier inside. Fall is my response to "what soothes you", the Poets and Storytellers United prompt.
Birth starts our time to shine … some get lucky breaks, others misery, most a bit of everything inbetween. I don't want to get grim at this bewitching hour but birth is also the start of dying. Although some rest in regal corners and others in unmarked graves, we cozy up to the elements together, converting to matter and, some say, pure spirit.
The moon teased the night sky, a glowing yet clouded crystal ball shrouding the future.
Poets and Storytellers United had me contemplating death and life with the prompt, el DÃa de Muertos (Day of the Dead), when souls of the deceased rejoin family briefly for a celebration. (I should note Day of The Dead, despite similarities, is not Halloween in Canada on October 31st, a time for treats, costume-wearers, spooky lawn ornaments and black cats.) It's fine to pick a special day but loved ones are never far from my thoughts. Family that passed away as well as cherished friends, and dear pets, all flit in and out like ghostly gusts in my head while I absorb and am absorbed by the scenery.

Why Does Anything Exist
It's human nature to ask why. We've done it since childhood. Humankind is propelled by curiosity, isn't it? Because we need reasons, it's inconceivable to most that creation exists for its own sake with no particular point or purpose. Scientists and mystics learn over time while we fill in the blanks with our stories. Pondering in verse the Poets and Storytellers United word prompt "why", I sought calm in a world overfull with drama.
Along the shore, I saw swimmers floating with ease.
Nearby, windows reflected the heavens.
Moody clouds whisked along the blue sky.
A cozy house nestled amid the foliage.
Plants said their final goodbyes.
Autumn glowed around every corner.
Some flowers hesitated to go.
Trees were ablaze.
Paths were littered with leaves.
Forests shrugged off the clutter.
The stairwell took me to a deeper level.
A gate closed to the coming cold.
The cat settled into a Buddha pose.
Although the truth about existence eluded me, a new song about liars by Dolly Parton gave me odd comfort ... her words perhaps more suited to last week's post.
