Discovery

The Poets and Storytellers prompt "discovery" had me thinking Mother Earth is fluid and constantly changing. Perhaps this is why familiar scenes seem fresh. There is always something new to discover, especially if viewing nature as art. That's why there is an impressionistic side to some of my photos. I try to convey what the world really looks and feels like to me. My surroundings, like yours, are not flat, without texture, motion, delicacy or depth. Each step on the path has its own mood. And the more you look, the more you see. As I brush by the beauty, I notice some folks carrying bags to pick up litter they discover along the way. I admire their efforts. There is more than enough trash to go around world-wide. You can see some of it HERE. There are also innovative projects and discoveries in aid of the environment such as those HERE.

HOLD ONTO THE LIGHT

Light As A Feather

I took the sky shot in 2014 at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver, B.C. My hair and more have changed since the photo (below) was taken but I still look at clouds and imagine, trying to fill my head with a little more serenity now. Despite the dreams that have fled, ideas bloom and maybe some will land on welcoming soil.
Human nature moves us to imagine different realities but some dreams, even those not particularly grand, can elude us. Sometimes we need to modify our desires or dig in more passionately and try harder. The Poets and Storytellers prompt "light as a feather" made me think of how deceptively light a dream can feel until it hits a stone wall. And for every dream there can be strings attached to spin us back into unending circles. Perhaps this why being out in the open air is refreshing. In times of peace and space, aspirations can be limitless and all things seem possible, especially in Spring.

Love Letter To Wildflowers

Due to climate extremes, famine, wars, political upheaval and inept or brutal radical leaders, people from all walks of life seek better conditions. Like my parents long ago, they want a peaceful purposeful existence. I was born in Canada but my earlier roots originated elsewhere as is the case for much of humanity. The Poets and Storytellers prompt "love letters to wildflowers" made me think of the immigrants that throughout time were viewed more as weeds than adventurous flourishing flowers, often enduring hardships to arrive, then thrive, in new soil. Since spring is in the air, I also thought of the early bloomers in and around Crescent Beach, remembering to look skyward.

HOLD ONTO THE LIGHT

In The Face Of Disaster

People and places evoke sweet, sometimes bittersweet recollections. The poem is to my Ukrainian Canadian mom who long ago passed away. Her memory was made more poignant recently by the disaster that struck her homeland. The Poets and Storytellers prompt "in the face of disaster" got me thinking that a key to winning a fight you know is right is the belief that justice overcomes. When the battle is darkest, support of all sorts are like "teddy bears" amid chaos. Alongside bullets and blankets, some send cash, if they've any to spare, or prayers through time and space and light candles.

We are now into the second year of this current catastrophic struggle where many have died. However, the second candle, unrelated to Ukraine, is for a writer I just now discovered at dVerse Poets has passed away and whom I want to acknowledge.

Meanwhile, in my world, Frosty seemed a bit weary of the on again off again snow.

Crescent Beach beckoned as I've not taken walks there for a while. I'm both excited and hesitant about returning to the place where I fell. Until I do, I have hundreds of old photos to look at. Here's one at high tide taken I think near this time of year.
