Looking In Mirrors & Spying Through Keyholes

Do you ever look in a mirror and wonder if you or anything at all is as you envision it?

In my curly hair days it was mostly about the veneer and angst about what I wished I could see since there was a lot wrong it seemed with me.

Smokescreens permeate the human condition. This murky charade of visual effects blurs a truer understanding of the cosmic glue underpinning our existence beyond the senses.

Science tries to explain it; poetry seeks to penetrate it.

With that in mind and for a possible new creative project, I wrote Unbreakable Flow.

Tucked in the glittery dark, amid the realities we perceive and our fantasies, an invincible power persists. The binding ingredient energizing everything is not only in mirrors or discoveries through the eye of a camera. We can spy on this unifying factor through windows, keyholes in doors as well as in ourselves ... occasionally unlocking calm even when adrift in chaos and storms. Although we will go our separate ways with the dust and stars, come sit with me and unravel its mysteries in a peaceful moment of reflection .......

The Curious Thing About Doors

"There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception." - Aldous Huxley

Sandy Trail in Crescent Beach is touched by whimsy thanks to a local person who creates fairy doors and places them neatly at the forest edge of the path. Although you cannot enter or exit these doorways, your imagination certainly can.

Is 1965 (at right) a clue of some sort? Fantastical realms and mystery reside within each creation. Any door can make us a bit curious, even nervous. We don't truly know what awaits behind either real or imaginary portals. There could be a surprise on the other side. See another fairy door HERE.

Wrapped In & Enraptured By Nature

There are times when I stand alone trying to convey how cozy the world can feel.

Yet now, when so many of the old leaves have disappeared, the autumn chill had me thinking of knitted wear and quilts as I walked along Sandy Trail in Crescent Beach.

Looking up, down and all around there were plenty of patterns and colours perfect for woolly sweaters and afghans to keep me warm. The foliage provided the fabric and a photo art's program provided "needles" and textures.

Berry red and crisp green shades could make a cheery blanket on a couch.

Sprigs of yellow delicate leaves could cover a pillow to cuddle.

Broad green leaves might work as a large bedspread ...

and who wouldn't want to sleep in a cloud?

Fluffs of white (above) would feel marsh mellow soft for scarf and mittens.

Faded browns melting into ground could make comfortable socks and slippers.

Crimson would ward off the gray in a coat and the grassy tans (below) could weave a cozy winter cap. The natural elements that shed and grow under our feet provide for life's physical needs as well as inspire creative imaginings.

The Unburdening Of The World & Unraveling Of Summer

Autumn is the season of lightening the load and letting go. It's the time of year that makes my heart sing.

There is music in the crunchy leaves beneath my feet and there are vistas that open up when branches are bare. I don't like the raking but I do love the loosening and scattering of nature's debris, the deepening of browns, burgundy, reds, yellows and orange. Summer unraveling is a magic carpet of earthy hues.

The new season officially starts on the 23rd and there's still plenty of green at Sandy Trail where a mystery person placed bird houses and framed art by the path. Over the months, I have seen fairy doors, artsy shells and light seeping through the trees as if setting the stage for some grand mythical tale.

Light and shadow, art and artifacts are treasures I found as fall crept over the trail.

Hand-Painted Empty Shells At Sandy Trail

What resembled the painted toenails of a monster with big feet and too many toes (below) greeted me at the Sandy Trail stairs. The artistic works by preschoolers were placed on a row of posts for passersby to enjoy. These castaway homes of ocean dwellers were repurposed in a delightful way. Every shell had a tale to tell.

The one (below) looked like a ladybug settling in for a snooze after many adventures.

The creature below snuck out of the shell. Was it a frog or a crab?

The sailboat lazily drifted in a dark blue sea with clouds dotted overhead.

The shell shaped like a life preserver showed a bright sun rolling over the ocean.

The green-eyed monster below lingered in the moss and was ready to pounce.

The muddy gray creature was biding its time and camouflaging perfectly.

A brilliant star danced in the night sky, shining over our world.

The slug below with polka dot spots and a blue snout was dreaming about dinner.

Below, cotton candy pink clouds seemed to hover over another blue dot, planet Earth.

You might see it differently but the shell (below) covered in what looks like hieroglyph symbols shows a man with long legs running over a field of orange towards the sea.

As children learn to appreciate and recreate nature through art, they also learn that life as we know it on Earth is on the brink and needs our attention so that the home we all inhabit will not, too, become an empty shell. Here's one of many sites with a few suggestions. We can't do everything but we can do some things to help.
