Heavenly Streams & Puddles Of Light

Autumn, to me, is pure heaven especially when, after the morning rain, the sun streaks through the sleepy greenery and illuminates spent blooms in graceful decay. Silver shimmering streams transform the forest into a divine realm. The refreshing coolness of the season replaces the stifling heat of summer; cozy sweaters and scarves find their places again at the front of the closet. Fall is the season that speaks to my sensibilities best, inspiring my few lines below for Poets and Storytellers United.

Surprise Mendings

The Poets and Storytellers United prompt to think of "a time you surprised yourself" had me writing a poem (below) about unexpected resilience. We're tougher than we know and, even if broken, possibilities exist. I also thought of a woman I call Flower who two years ago passed away. I still walk by her front yard garden on my way to the local park and envision her bent over, weeding, watering and nurturing the foliage and flowers. She prettied the area with her steady hand and eye for beauty, bringing joy that outlasted her. Here are a few of her blooms and some from other gardens, as well as beach scenes, where we humans, the most multifaceted of beings, love to roam.

Tall Tales & A Spring Walk

We know a lot but also remarkably little about existence: the how, what and why of it. That doesn't stop us from filling in the unknowns with stories that feel very real about Creation. Best guesses rush into every unanswered question and every detail invites its own analysis and definitions. Even with such inventive minds, it is hard to imagine how something can come out of nothing as it seemingly does so effortlessly each Spring. My poem ponders the mystery of how creativity blooms in the outer-inner worlds.

The Way It Is

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." - Sun Tzu

New life has begun, as amid the promise and hopefulness of Spring brews the hopelessness of more war. The Poets and Storytellers United prompt "write what you most need to communicate" resulted in my words below inspired by bleak events and the cold shrug from some in leadership to the suffering caused by "collateral damage". Even more disturbing than human indifference is learning that AI is being used to choose and strike targets in a very major way.

Strange Ballet

After summer's heat, I will feel relief at autumn's cooler breath coming. The anticipation has me thinking about all the transformations streaming through the seasons, seen to unseen and far too tiny to be visible by the naked eye or microscope. Hidden within the showiness of life, propelling every process and physical law, energy's molecular motion never stops. The unyielding movement that persists amidst the flow of human perceptions and e-motions ran through my thoughts during a recent walk, resulting in a few photos and a poem.
