Letter From Earth

The Poets and Storytellers United prompt "write a letter to our body" brought Earth to focus, the "body" we live on that's losing its luster, in part, due to human activity that can be mitigated simply by lowering carbon emissions. There is also the bruising of wars that effect Earth as a whole. The human cycle of our billions-of-years-old home has been hospitable. If it were human, however, it might need hospitalization, although on calm days a sick planet can look remarkably well and its health quite indiscernible.

Free As A Bird ... Almost

The mosaic symbolizing earth, air, water and fire looked like a disc about to fly off.
Thankfully, the joint art project by Deborah Putman and Connie Glover stayed stuck to the Kwomais Park grounds and not one chip broke off or lifted in the wind and rain. The recent moderate storm refreshed the air but left a leafy mess, scattering my thoughts as I pondered the "bound and/or breaking free" Poets and Storytellers United prompt.
Simultaneously bound and unbound in varying degrees, we navigate the world interdependently. While some are made helpless by outside forces impeding every move, others don self-imposed shackles due to limiting beliefs. Bound by natural laws and societal responsibilities, complete freedom is an illusion. Yet, when I am being me without pretense and moving about to wherever my whims take me, I feel free.
With all its talk about freedom, the 2024 US Democratic National Convention brought back memories of the 2017 Women's March I attended in Vancouver, Canada. Perhaps societies in general are somewhat like mosaics, replacing stale but cemented ideas bit by bit over time. A US female president could be refreshing and is boundary breaking.

Scary Thoughts On A Not So Scary Walk

Ivars Jansons' Lazy Morning print that I have and love for its touch of darkness seemed right for the backdrop of this latest prose inspired by the Poets and Storytellers United word prompt "not so scary anymore". While we focus on made up monsters in movies and in life, true villains too often succeed in their dastardly deeds. Yes. There are real monsters among us and sometimes we are them, although few feel they are on the wrong side of justice. Who among us believe themselves to be scary or capable of grave injustice? Yet, the potential to behave as devils or angels resides within us all.
