The
Poets and Storytellers United prompt invites us to write about "the time of day we like best and why", inspiring my poem below. Four in the morning is often when my undistracted and best creative ideas take shape and reshape into new art forms. I also love the early hours beyond then, when alert birds position themselves as sentinels at the beach. In my world, there's been a cleansing rain amid the wintry chill, revealing the potholes I side-step along the way. It's been a long while since I've jumped full-force into a puddle, unconcerned about how big or muddy that splash might get. It isn't that I mind getting wet, I just have so much fun letting Penelope do it.
Nature's beauty always fascinates and calms
ReplyDelete...Maria, your little piece of heaven is indeed heavenly. Stay warm and well.

I enjoyed the poem and your photos. The early bird catches the worm as they say. In your case, the early bird captures the best photos. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDelete4:00 AM is still quite dark here, but I’m an early riser too and completely agree, it’s a special time. I loved your photos of the birds as sentinels and that beautiful shot of the raindrops clinging to the branches!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteThe in between time when time seems to stand still for one person. I love dusk when the light paints an eerie glow. You photos are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought and image of opening of an envelope - a new day and creative opportunity- wonderful! Jae
ReplyDeleteVery cool shots.
ReplyDeleteI adore your poem (and of course your photos are always wonderful). Many years ago now, one line in a poem of mine said, '4 am is when the poems hit.'
ReplyDeleteGorgeous poem I love 'future gifts and trials in evelopes sealed. ..' Very intriguing
ReplyDeleteLovely words. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteEven in summer 4:30 am is still dark here, but it's nice to beat everyone else up (lol) and enjoy the quiet.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem and photos. I love the Heron and the gull photos. Pretty views of the pier and the leaves with droplets. May your cares be light as a raindrop, I love this quote! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great week ahead.
beautiful poem and though.... encouraging to see you reach out early in the morning to receive the sealed envelope, the gift of the day
ReplyDeleteThe in-between are my favorite times. Do you remember the Christopher Robin poem 'halfway down the stairs"? I remember how it had much more meaning when I read it to my children (the way favorite books do when you reread them at different ages).
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten that poem "Halfway Down" by A.A. Milne. How nice to be reminded of it here. And, yes, it does carry more weight as one gets older. :)
DeleteLovely photos and words.....Rall
ReplyDeleteI can feel bracing air and hope in your poem and photos, Maria. At 4 a.m. I’m still asleep hearing the sound of newspaper delivery in a dream. When it is 4:00 a.m. in Vancover, it is 9:00 p.m. on the same day in Japan. We take turns being ready for the fresh new day and ending the day with a sense of thankfulness and small accomplishment. My favorite time is dusk when the darkness falls on the ground while birds fly to their nests in the still rosy sky.
