Like a sudden pop of colour in the gloom, the
Poets and Storytellers United prompt to write about "what feels luxurious" had me appreciating the simple luxuries I take for granted that simply are not available to all.
Unrest, displacement, wars and poverty have plagued much of the world throughout history, making truth, justice and a harmonious, safe existence priceless commodities.
Our inability to find common ground puts even the tallest trees, livable temperatures, and clean air and water at risk, turning basic comforts for many into rarities and transforming luxury into something far deeper than mere tactile pleasure.
Indeed, luxuries can be subjective. Back in 2020 (when the picture below was taken and COVID ran rampant) we were wisely advised to keep our distance. When the worst was over, giving hugs again or having a good laugh with a friend over a delicious lunch out suddenly felt like a privilege worth more than any treasure or trinket of gold.

"May your cares be light as a raindrop." - Penelope Puddle
It may be a cliché, but it is VERY important to acknowledge the small things in life that can make it so pleasant. We have seen graphically in Minnesota how quickly life can change - or in some cases end so quickly.
ReplyDeleteoh I love all your little luxuries. They are true gems and make you feel joyful. They aren't available to all, so it is good to be aware of that ❤️ and I love 'May your cares be light as a raindrop.' and that gorgeous painting
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot of the bird - it could be a christmas card! #Skywatch
ReplyDeleteI remember as covid restrictions started loosening going to an outdoor happy our with friends of mine. I have never felt giddy before, but I felt giddy being around other people, such a great experience that I had taken for granted.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the trees is stunning. It's good to look for the small blessings in each day. xx
ReplyDeleteSo true! It’s the little things that make life feel rich. Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, how blessed we are, those of us who can regularly enjoy such experiences which would be rare luxuries indeed for far too many other people in the world!
ReplyDeleteI love that we can give hugs freely again. My poem today goes well with your second paragraph here.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and awesome poetry ~ Simple Pleasures are the best ~ hugs, ~ an artist reflects
ReplyDeleteBeatiful photos. Things that we used to take for granted seem to be disappearing around us!
ReplyDeleteYes, luxuries are subjective and often quite small. Big luxuries have upkeep costss.

...Maria, Covid had huge affects on us all. A sudden pop of color feels luxurious on this cold and snowy morning.
ReplyDeleteYour poem reminds me how lucky I am. Good write 👏
ReplyDeleteVery true indeed. The picture of the woods is fantastic and very thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteWell said Penelope. We hanker after artificial luxuries whereas Nature has lavished upon us so much that we have not cared for properly.
ReplyDeletelovely and so positive...
ReplyDeleteThat was a sweet poem on the little luxuries we take for granted and lovely pics too
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the vanishing luxuries! While our aspiration is to leave the planet for the coming generations better than we received, the reality is that we are not evening leaving the condition in which we received.
ReplyDeleteYour little luxuries are precious.
