Like a sudden pop of colour in the gloom, the
Poets and Storytellers United prompt to write about "what feels luxurious" had me appreciating the simple luxuries I take for granted that simply are not available to all.
Unrest, displacement, wars and poverty have plagued much of the world throughout history, making truth, justice and a harmonious, safe existence priceless commodities.
Our inability to find common ground puts even the tallest trees, livable temperatures, and clean air and water at risk, turning basic comforts for many into rarities and transforming luxury into something far deeper than mere tactile pleasure.
Indeed, luxuries can be subjective. Back in 2020 (when the picture below was taken and COVID ran rampant) we were wisely advised to keep our distance. When the worst was over, giving hugs again or having a good laugh with a friend over a delicious lunch out suddenly felt like a privilege worth more than any treasure or gold trinket.
