The In-between Dream

Some dreams are so fantastical I wish I could stay sleeping longer while others scare me awake. Below I describe the latter, a dream I recently had, exactly as it unfolded.
Stressful dreams don't happen often. They can be like poems full of symbolism.
Thoughts ebb and flow like the tide, ponderings in the middle of our before and afters.
Life events linger to sometimes seek resolution during sleep.
My visit to Vancouver amid a heavy rainfall gave fresh perspective. A lovely chandelier sparkled cheerily in the foyer of a hotel.
Trees lining the streets were starting to change colour.
The city bustled. People were out and about unfazed by the rainfall.
Purple balls hung in the sky by the Art Gallery in Vancouver.
The art added colour to the gray day.
Strikers displayed their bright signage, too, in hopes of quick resolution. They are in a bit of a waking bad dream, stuck between wanting to work and wanting fairness.
Crescent Beach back home was also starting to look like autumn.
I liked the cooler weather ...
and nature's decorations.
Tomatoes snuggled, touched by tiny droplets of occasional sunlight.
The usual suspects were out and about searching for food.
It looked like slim pickings.
Birds groomed before bedding. Perhaps they would have fantastical dreams of their own of catching fish or chasing eagles.
I, however, prefer dreams of flying carefree and wondrously through billowy skies.

  1. Wow, that is quite a stressful dream!!
I hope you get some sort of resolution with it soon.
Beautiful pics. You are several weeks ahead of us for fall weather. We are still running our air conditioning and some of the trees are just now "thinking" about turning color.

  11. I'm with you, when my dream wakes me up before an end kinda makes me unhappy. I like your pictures, fortunately our stay in Vancouver had no rain.

  12. I dream all the time. Sometimes I wake up and remember the whole dream. Most of the time I don't remember. There are some dreams of family I've lost that stay with me indefinitely - I talked to them and hugged them.

Your dream was pretty stressful and made me feel stressful too, so powerful were your words. I wish we could interpret our nightmares. I often dream that I don't have a key because I have forgotten it. and wonder what it really means. I love the Hold On To The Light picture.

    1. That is when I woke up, as I was about to get crushed by the door in my dream world, perhaps feeling smothered by having my head too close to the pillow in the real world.

  25. I love your Zola Peace on Earth, it is exquisite! Your dreams are troubling. I have been having them lately. One I remember, a playground full of children and there is this feeling of dread. It reminded me of a dream I had as a child. Your images make me smile again, in particular the ones of the usual suspects, the dogs and the changing leaves. I may have missed a few but I loved them all. Thanks for those smiles Maria :)

  26. Stressful dreams are certainly unsettling, a bit like a waking bad dream sometimes, aren't they, full of symbolism seeking resolution. Vancouver in the rain sounds beautiful though, the bright art and the sparkling chandelier must have added such a cheerful contrast to the gray day. The purple balls by the Art Gallery and the striking autumn colors back at Crescent Beach make for lovely images. I hope your next dream is indeed of flying carefree through billowy skies.
