Unshakeable

Bare and leafy branches swayed and clouds scattered. The last of 2024 included wind storms sweeping through the area, leaving thousands in the dark, breaking branches and knocking down some trees. Now it's peaceful again and the Earth seems cleansed by the rain that followed. So much of life requires us to be plugged in. Should power outages be permanent it is easy to see how we would revert quickly back to the Stone Age since most of humanity knows little to nothing about how modern "gadgets" work. Worldly woes, wars and climate crisis deniers drag on into the New Year along with all the good things. Amid the chaos there is wonder and a fresh turn of a calendar page that invites hopeful attitudes and inspires my poem for Poets and Storytellers United.

  13. You are right… a permanent power outage would prevent life as most of us know it. That’s already happening in some unfortunate areas, but the little information we get suggests that people are more imaginative than one should hope.
