Hope Set Sail
"False hope is a creeping vine." - from Plainsong, Horizon Forbidden West
There are as many types of clouds as facets to people. Pleasant, placid, edgy, flighty, still, stirred, puffed up, dreary, grim, thin, thick, thunderous, sullen, silver-lined, fiery, flimsy, rain-swollen, squalid, woolly, dreamy, moon-struck, sun-streaked, cotton candy clouds have swept over my horizons. This week's Poets and Storytellers United prompt are grammatical tools, i.e. "adjectives and adverbs". There would be little language left without these descriptive devices. So naturally a few found their way into my post and poem. News of the day was also my prompt. Cries for better situations are at universal levels. There are more personal hopes and prayers than glints in the ocean at a time when we most need healing actions, life's "verbs", to instill real hope and change.
Some photos were taken locally and others during my Alaska cruise years ago. ⛅

Such beautiful sky photos and wonderful quote.
ReplyDeleteYou do such a great job with your photographs.
ReplyDeleteLovely skyline in photo #1 and gorgeous skies!
ReplyDeleteAmazing captures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection of sky photos.
ReplyDeleteIncredible photography!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the gorgeous sky shots.
Your lovely photo of the sailboat on the horizon reminded me of Enya's song - "Orinoco Flow" and the refrain, "Sail away, sail away, sail away." I had to look up the lyrics and there's one line that just popped out at me: "From the deep Sea of Clouds to the island of the Moon." I thought it kinda fit your Moon shot through the "sea of clouds" :) It seems like there are so many clouds (emotions) we have to pass through sometimes to get to clarity ... Love that you put a bottle of wishes in the Ocean :)
ReplyDeletesun-swallowed bottle... how I love that!!! Great pics..
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures that capture so many emotions.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant use of adjectives in both the poem and the introductory note. Your wonderful photos are an added bonus!
ReplyDeleteThese images are incredible! Lovely words also. Every time I come here I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteI like your "Hope"-setting sail. Guess I should hope all of tests I've been taking finds the roots of my sudden attack of anemia. Had a bone marrow biopsy this morning. The blood tests give my kidneys a bad score but the blood test are giving strange and conflicting results. One day cancer is ruled out and then the next will come a test that could put it back in. I turned 90 on my recent Sabatical, I should be satisfied with what ever.
ReplyDeleteI liked your 'Folk on a bench facing the waters.' I've taken quite a few pictures of this viewing prompt, quite a few of other benches. The viewers tend to put themselves into the picture.
..
Jim, wishing you improved health as the tests proceed.
DeleteI like your poem and yes pleas are seemingly left unread these days. Your photos are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteColourful emotions and photos!
ReplyDeleteEach sky arises a certain emotion. In the first photo, I wonder whether the city is under the clouds or the waves. I like the umbrella of which colors look blending in the surrounding nature. The moon image reminded me of a moon-ship tannka poem by Kakinomoto Hitomaro (?-708).
ReplyDeleteOn the sea of heaven
The waves of clouds rise
And I can see
The moon-ship disappearing
As it is rowed into the forest of stars
天の海に 雲の波立ち 月の船
星の林に 漕ぎ隠る見ゆ
Such a lovely verse, stardust. Thank you!
DeleteI like the glimmers from the sun swallowed bottles on the water too. Nice pics !...Rall
ReplyDeleteLovely words and beautiful sky captures. Take care, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your hazy, lazy, filled with wonderful adjectives/adverbs a lot. As always, the photography too.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the person holding an umbrella fitting quite well into the cloud image. Skies in all the images look mystical. Also like paintings rather than photographs. Absolutely lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteMaria - I have been out of pocket for a long time, and it is wonderful to see that some things have not changed - your poetry and the beautiful images you share with all of us!
ReplyDeleteAlways love to see your 'signature umbrella' in a photo ~ wonderful sky shots
