Hope Set Sail

"False hope is a creeping vine." - from Plainsong, Horizon Forbidden West

There are as many types of clouds as facets to people. Pleasant, placid, edgy, flighty, still, stirred, puffed up, dreary, grim, thin, thick, thunderous, sullen, silver-lined, fiery, flimsy, rain-swollen, squalid, woolly, dreamy, moon-struck, sun-streaked, cotton candy clouds have swept over my horizons. This week's Poets and Storytellers United prompt are grammatical tools, i.e. "adjectives and adverbs". There would be little language left without these descriptive devices. So naturally a few found their way into my post and poem. News of the day was also my prompt. Cries for better situations are at universal levels. There are more personal hopes and prayers than glints in the ocean at a time when we most need healing actions, life's "verbs", to instill real hope and change.

Some photos were taken locally and others during my Alaska cruise years ago. ⛅

  8. Your lovely photo of the sailboat on the horizon reminded me of Enya's song - "Orinoco Flow" and the refrain, "Sail away, sail away, sail away." I had to look up the lyrics and there's one line that just popped out at me: "From the deep Sea of Clouds to the island of the Moon." I thought it kinda fit your Moon shot through the "sea of clouds" :) It seems like there are so many clouds (emotions) we have to pass through sometimes to get to clarity ... Love that you put a bottle of wishes in the Ocean :)

  13. I like your "Hope"-setting sail. Guess I should hope all of tests I've been taking finds the roots of my sudden attack of anemia. Had a bone marrow biopsy this morning. The blood tests give my kidneys a bad score but the blood test are giving strange and conflicting results. One day cancer is ruled out and then the next will come a test that could put it back in. I turned 90 on my recent Sabatical, I should be satisfied with what ever.
I liked your 'Folk on a bench facing the waters.' I've taken quite a few pictures of this viewing prompt, quite a few of other benches. The viewers tend to put themselves into the picture.

  15. Each sky arises a certain emotion. In the first photo, I wonder whether the city is under the clouds or the waves. I like the umbrella of which colors look blending in the surrounding nature. The moon image reminded me of a moon-ship tannka poem by Kakinomoto Hitomaro (?-708).

    On the sea of heaven
    The waves of clouds rise
    And I can see
    The moon-ship disappearing
As it is rowed into the forest of stars
    天の海に 雲の波立ち 月の船
    星の林に 漕ぎ隠る見ゆ

  19. I loved seeing the person holding an umbrella fitting quite well into the cloud image. Skies in all the images look mystical. Also like paintings rather than photographs. Absolutely lovely blog.
