Sky Candy & Recipes For Disaster

The reflective bit of sky candy swirled like a twisted piece of licorice in a mostly gray and rainy week as my thoughts turned to something less palatable on the menu.
Whether one is investing their heart, finances or both, there are schemers whose true intentions are shady and sadly lead to disaster and financial ruin. It usually begins with a hope, a need, a dream unrealized. This longing creates vulnerability and room for the "ponzi" schemer to entice with grand promises. Mixing a dash of hope with a spoonful of shady results in a meal that is none too tasty. But it is what came to mind for the Poets and Storytellers United prompt "recipe" due to this recent story in the news.

POSTSCRIPT Feb. 9, 2023: Loss of love or money pales in comparison to the devastation caused by last Monday's 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria which at this writing resulted in more than 19,000 people killed and tens of thousands injured. Our horror and hearts go out to the victims. It is clear that a recipe for increasing the impact of such disasters are the many homes built with poor structural integrity, some existing amid a civil war. It is also all too easy to speculate that the reverberations of heavy weaponry perhaps played a role in agitating the earth to such a massive scale.

  12. We pay a heavy penalty for treading onto the virtual world. Plain people like us are ripe for robots finding us out for its master. New modus operandi overwhelm and capture us and ours.

  13. I like the photo of the graveyard, reflects exactly my feelings ! I was sick the whole week (bronchitis) and thought the end is near ! I am nearly 80, so it could be possible. All the disasters happening right now, are sad of course, but much more is the passing away of my husband 7 month ago, and I feel so lost, we were married 54 years !

    1. Glad you are feeling better and so sorry about your monumental loss. As your journey continues with all the memories, I am reminded of a quote: “Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.”

  14. I've witnessed the devastation and rubble caused by Hurricane Ian here in an area where there are at least some building regulations (not enough yet) -- but that makes it easier to imagine a little bit what it must be like in Turkey.

  15. Love your licorice sky candy. The cemetery is very somber but beautiful and I always love that little girl with the umbrella. The news of the earthquake in Turkey is heartbreaking, And as for the very bad people out there looking for victims to fleece, when one says it could never happen to me, think twice. These wily ones are very convincing.
