Spookiest Halloween Ever

What could be scarier than a pandemic? The ghostly virus haunting the world right now has made trick-or-treating a bit more difficult this Halloween. For the first time in decades I won't be inviting children to our door or giving out treats.

The howling seasonal weather is inviting windsurfers to Crescent Beach, however, where men strapped themselves to big crescent moon kites that flew to the sky.

It looked like hard work getting them ready for flight but seemed worth the effort.

I imagined casting cares to the wind and bumping along on the rough water.

The bubbly sudsy waves surged in and out from the shore when suddenly ...

a couple of kayakers appeared.

Their pumpkin coloured paddles reminded me of decorations at many homes this time of year. Activities somewhat curtailed, the spirit of Halloween is alive and well ... brightening front porches and delighting the kid in us all.

  1. Wonderful photos of the windsurfers. You're right, nothing could be scarier than a pandemic. It's really a dilemma for us and our poor granddaughter, who wants so badly to go trick-or-treating. Not sure what we are going to do.

  2. LOVE those pumpkins!! How creative... Halloween is my favorite holiday of them all. But we won't be opening our door to the little goblins either this year. I've heard some people are going to put tables out on their driveways with individually wrapped treats, so the kids just have to walk by and pick one, safe distancing hopefully, rather than have a community bowl where a lot of little hands would be dipping in. Sigh...

  5. Hello,
Cool captures of the windsurfers. I love the carved pumpkins, they are cute. I would think trick-or-treating would be canceled. The virus is still scary, it is not going away. Love the photos. Take care and stay safe. Enjoy your day, have a great weekend!

  6. Those windsurfers are incredible. The kayakers must really enjoy being out in cold windy conditions. No thanks!!

For the first time ever, Halloween will be dark at our house.

  7. Events around the world have been impacted by the pandemic, but how important it is to maintain as much of our traditions as we can! Lovely photos!

  8. Nice captures of kite surging and kayaking, Penelope! Such sports at the sea look wild and adventurous becoming one with rough wind or waves. I’m attracted by the crescent-moon-shaped kite and the colors of the waves. The curved pumpkins are so cute, especially the laughing one when pandemic is going to continue for the time being. Have happy Halloween in ingenious way.

  12. All you have to say is “2020” to be scared to bits. What a year. I hope with all my heart that next Tuesday rescues us (on this side of our border) from some of the fear , but of course that isn’t going to make Covid go away. Meanwhile pumpkins make me smile .
