A New Day & Being Of Two Minds

"Once I make up my mind, I'm full of indecision." - Oscar Levant

When I awoke this morning it seemed the world had changed somewhat for the better in terms of air quality outside my window. I could hear the birds chirping in the backyard like a happy choir.

There were two Penelope's on the go because I couldn't decide which one I liked better and there were two me's. One was dead tired of the pandemic and its restrictions and the other was concerned about starting too soon towards normal.

The "new idea" in the news is that we will start lessening restrictions this weekend in B.C. We need to continue being careful individually but we have no control over the rest. It's a test for the health officials who set out the rules as we face the uncertainties of going in a direction that instills too much thought static to clearly see the path ahead. Victoria Day is a long weekend holiday and the weather is pleasant so people will be eager to escape their "prisons". It's a good time to stay in my own bubble at home creating more Puddle art or sorting a closet. (The following photos were taken during my Mother's Day excursion just last week.)

Flowers from my daughter and (below) a homemade flag at an apartment window ...

My earlier capture of a yard (below) predicted being anchored at home.

The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them is a helpful read as we take baby steps outdoors.

  1. Hello, love your pretty flowers, The heart and world flag is a great sight. Victoria Day sounds like a big celebration, I would be weary of the crowded places. Take care and stay safe. Wishing you a happy day!

  2. These are pretty illustrations, beautiful flower, love the flag in the window and the anchor in the yard. I don't think I have ever said before and keep meaning too, but the photo of you as a child is really lovely. Our restrictions will be lifted soon also but it will be a long time before I will venture out. I think we are in limbo land and there are dire warnings out there, and I don't feel too confident about setting forth. I'll wait and see for a while, a good long while if needed. Stay safe and happy :)

  3. Belated Happy Mother's Day to you! I hear you about indecision. Montana has had a relatively low case rate, and it has dropped to near zero of new daily cases. But, summer approaches and with it tourists - oh dear, might they bring it with them? It is prudent to be cautious, me thinks!

  7. Being of two minds is an appropriate way of expressing the way I feel ...restrictions have been eased somewhat here (not in all of the State) but in this home we are not ready to unmask (or to ease up in our self-restrictions in any way) just yet. Most of the time that is the mind I’m living in ..(.but then I walk by a mirror and think about my overdue haircut appointment and it is very hard to resist that other mind). So far, I’m holding on to my sanity and staying the course.

    1. Haha, my husband cut my hair and the style turned out much like the one pictured on five-year-old me. :)

  8. I smiled to know Penelope doesn’t shut umbrella when she sleeps. Maybe she was dead tired. I am also ambivalent about the eased restrictions but I was convinced by the Osaka Pref. Governor who I respect. It’s not the choice of life or economy but all about human life, or death due to the disease or due to economic collapse. Now that we understand the nature of this virus, we need to coexist with it for the time being. Thank you for the article. I’ll read later. Take care,

  9. I could have written exactly the same ! It's the very first time since probably Adam and Eve (if they ever existed) that the whole world has the same problems, I mean all people in our world. We had so said "World wars" but that was not the whole world. Now we are all sitting in the same boat have to wear masks and wash our hands and keep distance ! It's for sure, we will be in history books even in 200 or more years ! And we all don't know exactly what this virus is !

  10. I have the same conflict--stay at home and be safe (and antsy) or venture out and take a chance. The picture of "anchored at home" expresses the situation perfectly!

  11. I love the flag you found and the anchor. Yes the world is opening and we all have decisions to make. I'll be staying home a bit longer thank you very much.

  13. I understand the dilemma, we've been thinking along those lines too; which path to tread. The quote is perfect!

  16. We can only hope that the transition back to some semblance of what life was like before Covid-19 goes smoothly and that everyone is constantly aware that the actions of one have the potential to affect many others, in good ways or bad. Let us not be lulled into a foolish disregard of common sense and uphold our civic duty to keep the well being of our fellow citizens in mind at all times.

  17. Well said, David! Respect for the health of others should be top of mind. The health of all of us depends on it.
