Time Stops At The Beach In The Summer Years
Skirts flutter in divine fashion when the breeze sweeps softly along Crescent Beach shores. Visitors know what necessities and toys to bring on carefree cloudless days. Parasols and beach umbrellas replace rain umbrellas. Clocks have no place here.
I looked up and saw a people-less plane take to the skies during a recent walk.
Even the shark (above) with a big toothy grin took wing where eagles and seagulls fly.
Some folks huddled in tents to hide from the heat until the creeping tide trickled in.
Some dove into the deep sea ... others squished their toes in muddy shallow pools.
Whether building sandcastles, flying kites, swimming or tanning on gritty blankets and towels, a beach holiday in youth can lull us into thinking our days will forever be grand.
But now ... reflecting on my photos to the sounds of rain tapping on the roof, I know time stalled never stands still and the summer years slip through our fingers like sand.
Postscript, August 4, 2019: Violence in Texas hit like a thunderbolt robbing so many of their future summers and back to school years. It must be acknowledged that for them time stopped altogether and these awful repeated events could be prevented in a more proactive sensible world. “Silence in the face of evil is evil itself … . Wonderful Summertime photos ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Idyllic scenes of summer to be sure, Maria. As for the violence in El Paso, it was quickly followed by a second mass shooting in Dayton, OH a few hours later. And it was preceded a few days earlier by the killings at the garlic festival in California, the shootings in Brooklyn.....and so on. When this craziness will end, and why there is no political will nor common sense to stop it, is beyond my simple mind's ability to comprehend.
ReplyDeleteI love beach pictures:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for not remaining silent. It has been a ghastly time... I can’t believe it keeps happening over and over. ... your beach pictures and words do perfectly capture the summer spirit...and the wish that we lived in simpler times (or perhaps that we were young and knew no better).
ReplyDeleteSo much color against the ocean and sand canvas. So much sadness about what is happening in our country and those who inflame and enable it.
ReplyDeleteHello, I just love all the pretty colors in your photos. The beach looks very popular, the kites are fun. The violence in our country, mass shootings are becoming the normal now. Our leader and politicians are doing nothing but sitting back collecting money from the NRA. It makes me sad, to see so much hatred! Your beach photos make me think of happy and fun times. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!
ReplyDeleteYou have me right there beside you at the beach...FUN photos!
ReplyDeleteYour photos embody the summers of my youth possibly remembered through rose tinted glasses. I feel saddened and helpless by so much needless loss of life.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous beach scenes! Horrendous, heinous acts, such great sadness for those families to endure, senseless acts of violence. When are the politicians going to do something? I have lost my faith in them. Stop wagging fingers at each other for your own ends, do something for the people, for the children!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and words Warms you up being in winter. Yes I heard the shocking news about the violence which has repeated itself in different places. Very frustrating that nothing gets done about it. Here they have new gun laws but already they found ways to get around it. What a world we live in
ReplyDeleteSwift reaction to the horrific event in NZ from leadership was impressive. It is disappointing to think the strength of new laws is perhaps eroding. Access to weapons of war helps big business but endangers humanity. Unfortunately, common sense voices can never rest it seems and need to be loud, clear and persistent.
DeleteRecent events in Texas and Ohio are sobering, as they always are. When will it end? We must act to end the violence, and we must also continue to live our lives to the fullest. We never know when a gun or something else will forever end the sand … On a lighter note, I had to laugh at the boy with all those beach toys. Were there other kids just outside the picture frame?
