Sweet Dreams
Vancouver appointments and long stints in waiting rooms had some folks seeming to nap while I looked out the window and contemplated the "memories and dreams" prompt from Poets and Storytellers United, resulting in my poem below.
Although I've had my share of nightmares, I've also had dreams where I'm levitating, light as a leaf, the key player and/or observer wrapped up in vivid yet strangely vague and deliciously mysterious plots from which I don't want to wake. Perhaps you've had similar experiences. Usually, such dreams pick up on past memories or events of the day and reflect thoughts that linger in the subconscious mind. I imagine that the many people who sleep in these Vancouver highrises have had dreams that felt amazingly real. Our dream lives are so much more than a playground where we pretend.

Wow, I didn't realize Vancouver was such a big city! It's been years since I've been there. That's a beautiful skyline!
ReplyDelete-I always have to check bios, even if I have in the past, to see which Vancouver posters mean, as I live in Oregon, and Vancouver, WA is just across the river from Portland! Your photos make even a big city look lovely and inviting. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your poem! And your brilliant statement about our dream lives being more than a playground where we pretend. ( And our waking lives too :) So many high-rises!!! Gorgeous shots.
ReplyDeleteLove your city scapes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics! Your poem has inspired me to pay more attention to my own dreams. I've tried everything to remember my dreams, but they always seem to slip away.
ReplyDelete...Maria, I recently saw a video about lovely single family houses being torn down or moved to make way for new high rises. It sound like the only is UP! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI like the image of the spinning leaf, free of all dread...!!
ReplyDeleteThe skyline is one I love. Within that skyline I feel a sense of community and belonging. I see many people who are working toward their dreams in thoughtful, beautiful and useful ways.
ReplyDeleteLove this outlook on big city life, Rose!
DeleteI love the playfulness in your poem - a real Wonderland! - Jae
ReplyDeleteFiends and wizards! Murky friends indeed!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos. Your city is so beautiful. I don't think I have ever had a cloud dream but in that state between awake and sleep sometimes I think I'm a cloud drifting across the country side and I can see everything that is going on, the landscape, and it is so beautifu.
ReplyDeleteI seldom have dreams, and if I do, I never remember it. I have great memories of Vancouver and the Chinese food (in Richmond).
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit Vancouver some day--in more than just dreams
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely dreams of peaceful sleep. My sleep is more fitful and my dreams often stress inducing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. "I lift like a cloud while still in my bed." Lovely line.
ReplyDeleteFor the moment I sleep quite well, and am not dreaming, but a few months ago it was terrible, I woke up all 2 h and had difficulties to fall asleep again and then I dreamed horrible things which fortunately I didn't remember in the morning !
ReplyDeleteThe thing that always amazes me about dreams is that people from different stages of my life can all appear together in the same dream and it makes perfect sense!
ReplyDeleteMaria - lovely writing! I have had such an odd mixture of dreams lately - most of them scary - I try not to think too much about what they mean!!! Love the skyline photos! It makes me want to visit!
ReplyDeleteThe view of the beautiful high-rises soaring into the sky and the docked yachts waiting for sailing - so beautiful and inspiring. You’ve made me love your city in this blog. I seldom remember dreams; only the feel of sweet sorrow remains. Dream a sweet dream, Maria.
