A Potent Brew

When I contemplate the connections between my world and everything else there is no end to entanglements. In some miraculous way that seems commonplace, the universe exists in a teacup and it took an infinite chain of events and possibly close to eternity to slip hot brew through my lips as I pondered Storytellers' word prompt "ordinary".
Stuffing huge amounts of leaves into bulging bags is quite ordinary this time of year.
Even leaves that escaped the bags will vanish into dust ... nothing unique about that.
Seeing a broken mirror was a bit unusual. My reflection peeked out from its shattered face, a misty moment that will not reappear in the same way. Although some things seem similar, the planet's palette rearranges itself continuously like clouds at play.
The art (below) was stuck on the wall like random words in a poem that fit. The circles made me think of coins collecting in fountains and all the wishes simply sitting there.
If I had a penny, I might have tossed it into the decorative waterfall gurgling at me by a building. It was an artificial construct but the water was real and life-sustaining.
The stream could fill the cups of many that drink-in routinely the potent brew of being.

  1. An incredibly insightful post. The artist's observation leads to a painting, the artisan's appreciation brings a cup. Cycles are reflected in changes and circles. We are reflected back to ourselves as we observe and interact with our everyday. Interconnectedness isn't always easy to see but all is part of a dynamic mystery.

  2. Gorgeous photo of Crescent Beach, and I love the mirror photo! I've not seen those large Home Depot bags before. I'm hoping they can be recycled or reused.

  7. I’m marveled at the poem and the accompanying art. You have a way with words, Maria, to convey your insight which is penetrating. "The universe in a teacup” is an interesting notion. As for me, I sometimes feel like that I melt into the swirl of coffee in a cup.

  8. I love the line about creating an ordinary day anew... I do too... At least the leaves are not in plastic! I love a good broken mirror self portrait.

    1. I saw myself in a shattered mirror and got shattered for real. Significant? Probably not, but the universe does work in mysterious ways.

  12. Thank you all for visiting. I appreciate your thoughts. I had a tough fall yesterday. Broke my wrist and am wearing a cast so it is difficult to type. Holding onto the light STILL, but away from blogging for a while. :)

  14. I appreciate your gift of gathering thoughts together. I was astonished that you found a broken mirror. When I was younger with a ton of energy I would pile the leaves all over the garden to protect the plants from below freezing weather. Spring would come I'd gather the leaves off the plants by hand. I would discover big fat worms and black dirt. I would turn the soil over with the leaves. Working full time changed the organic gardening. I would gather up the leaves in the Big Bags that the Village requested and put a paid sticker on it then the garbage trucks would pick them up. Now the landscaper hauls our leaves away when he comes to cut the lawn.
