"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic." - Jack Layton

What's my next move, the squirrel seemed to be thinking while my thoughts, (on a walk to the beach fresh after the US election), were on words by Canadian New Democratic Party leader, Jack Layton. Layton passed away in 2011 but his message from the current Party leader was sent to Joe Biden who, in his victory speech, said cooperation is no mystery, it's a choice.

Earth floats the universal sea with mathematical precision while our lives hang in the balance serendipitously. Consciously or unconsciously, we make decisions impacting our survival that depends on a positive spirit of cooperation to solve problems from those who did (like me) or did not breathe a huge sigh of relief post election.

Will there be constant choppy waters ahead and/or creeping cooperation that will build back better? Since positivity, too, is a choice, Layton's words ring true today.

My friends, love is better than anger.

Hope is better than fear.

Optimism is better than despair.

So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic.

  3. I think that Jack Layton, had he not died so soon after his brilliant election campaign, may have succeeded the next time around in becoming Prime Minister, the first from his party to do so. Thomas Mulcair, his successor, was a brilliant figure in parliament, but never inspired his party or the electorate in the same way that Layton did. I wish Biden, and more especially Kamala Harris well. I will be glad to see the back of Trump, that snivelling sycophant, Pence, and the whole slimy entourage. There will still be grave obstacles in the Senate, however, in the persons of McConnell and Graham principally, but when I look at the supporting cast of people like Rubio, Cruz and others I shudder. I can't imagine a whole lot of bipartisan cooperation for the good of the country will be emanating from those people.

  4. These are beautiful words that anyone with a heart and soul and brain would appreciate. Unfortunately we have to wait until nearly the end of January to inaugurate a leader with those qualities. And sadly in spite of T’s loss there are too many people in our country who also lack those qualities and/or a brain. .... Thank you for sharing this Maria. Things are looking up at last.

  7. Yes - a huge sigh of relief here :) Finally someone to govern out country with integrity! The transition period will be challenging, as T-rump will not pick up his marbles and go home very willingly. But there is a glimmer of light as we look to the horizon - like in your last photo -for some of us anyway... :)

  13. Dear Penelope - I love the squirrel photo very much and each image talks something and is evocative. I consider myself a loving, optimistic person, but I’m angry now from this Far East, angry at a nation’s leader who lacks fair play of sportsmanship, doesn’t think of lives and wellbeing of its people but self-interest even in this time of emergency. Despite various differences, cooperative people can realize unity as people have more similarities than differences.
