From Rabbits To Snakes To Mind-Blowing Conclusions On Earth Day

EASTER came and went in a blink of an eye. That page has been turned and now it's Earth Day again.

We had a nice visit with our daughter over the holidays. It seems like it was just yesterday when she was a child. We leafed through the past and in an old album found a picture of her holding a rabbit (left). It reminded me of the Penelope art (lower right) she painted for me when she was small.

I've spent hours recreating this imaginary character who plays in an environment friendly to all. The pastime is relaxing and the scenes idyllic in contrast to the new report about our intensifying climate and its mind-blowing conclusions about Canada heating up twice as fast as the rest of the world, not due to borders but rather geography and melting of ice.

Fact, fantasy and denial converge as Earth evolves to its own natural conclusions. Meanwhile, harmful carbon dioxide caused by human activity definitely can be reduced and extend our stay here.

Like the reptile (below) snugly wrapped around a boy's arm, the world is tied up in knots over climate change. With their futures most at stake, youth are working to preserve life in a myriad of ways. Locally, a boy and his sidekick, Charlie the snake, raised funds for the Urban Safari Rescue Society.

  4. Climate change is the biggest problem we all face. A huge peaceful protest is still going on in London at the moment. It has attracted thousands of demontrators and support.

  7. Oh your daughter is really talented that she already did this on an early age. Is she still drawing/painting?
Wow I didn't know that Canada is heating twice as fast. Scary In the Netherlands they already create lakes and ponds to collect the flooding expected in the future

  9. That’s upsetting news about Canada warming. I can’t even comment further right now on the biggest issue of the day because it is too late and I have to work to stay calm in order to sleep. But thank you for all you do to call attention.

  10. It is a sobering fact that we are heating up with such rapidity, yet in the midst of all of this we have the Alberta government wanting to expand the tar sands development, and the federal liberals committed to building pipelines to transport the stuff. It is nothing short of depressing. And that doesn't even take into account the idiot regime south of the border.

    1. There are things doable to lessen human caused carbon pollution but there has been long-standing resistance from the Conservative Party across this country. It often seems as if they are the “skeptics” of proven fact and consequently a hindrance to helping the planet sustain future life.

  11. The climate change was not prospect but reality even decades ago. What have been done since then? I shudder to think that soon the time will come when the current abnormal weather (i.e. extreme weather) can feel normal when people are used to.
